The Paradox of Power

For years, traditional management has urged employees to become independent, adaptable, savvy and techno-literate.  Well¬…it's happened.  'Comes now the mystifying question¬…how do WE adapt to this ominous, and unpredictable market-driven employment relationship?

This humorous, thought-provoking presentation takes a realistic look at this peculiar and perplexing predicament.   Join the thousands of business leaders who have gained innovative insight and understanding of the management's role in the new order of customer-driven business.

The Book

It's a paradox about power¬…The More You Give away, the More You Have A paradox is a puzzle...a somewhat twisted thought or concept.  One important part of the nature of empowerment is a paradox.  By giving away power, the leader usually gains power in the long run.  The Paradox occurs for several reasons:

  • As group members become more empowered, they gain confidence and accomplishments.  As the group accomplishes more, the leader becomes more powerful.
  • As group members take over more of the manager's responsibilities, the leader can focus on those aspects of the job that add more value to the organization.  For example a leader who empowers team members to make more decisions by themselves has more time to spend with motivation and communication issues, and in getting to know people.
  • Empowered employees are better motivated.  As they produce more, the leader is perceived as being more powerful.  Empowered employees are usually more satisfied.  Satisfied employees are more likely to accept a leader's authority, thus enabling him or her to function with more power.
  • Like any paradox, the empowerment process is difficult for most people to believe.  Yet, if you implement empowerment successfully, in the long run you will experience the exhilaration of gaining power for yourself.
  • Information is Power!  Share your information¬…share your power¬…spread it around!
